Introduction to field Guiding
This course is based on standards set by the industry in order to produce professional
field guides. It runs over 26 days and starts on a Monday and covers the following
aspects as suggested by the industry.
• Guiding in the natural environment
• Creating a guided nature experience
• Geology,
soils, and landscape
• Weather & Climate
• Taxonomy
• Botany & Grasses
• The Class
Amphibia (Amphibians)
• The Class Pisces (Fish)
• The Class Mammalia (Mammals)
•
Conservation management
• Astronomy
• Ecology
• Biomes of Southern Africa
• The Classes
Insecta and Arachnida (spiders)
• The Class Reptilia (Reptiles)
• The Class Aves
(Birds)
• Animal behaviour
• Tracking (if possible)
• Weapons and weapon handling
(if possible)
• Bush driving and vehicle maintenance
Note : We also look at your practical abilities
during the course to see if you will fit
into a lodge situation as a guide and all rounder. This could include anything to do with working in the industry !!!!
